1) Yes, and you can use them even if you're not living in the dorms. It's cheap food, but filling. Basically, if you go in expecting cafeteria food, you won't be disappointed.
2) Location: There are several. I live in central Aix, and there are 4 large grocery stores within 5 minutes and several little ones even closer. As for the dorm area, there is at least one that's within walking distance - I'm not sure on the exact time, but I haven't heard any complaints about it being too far away.
Hours are another story - when they say that nothing is open on Sunday in France, it's not a joke. If you forget food or toilet paper on Saturday, you will have serious issues come Sunday, especially if you're in the dorms. I'm lucky enough to live next to a Vival (small store with groceries) that's open for 5 hours, but there's not much else open on Sundays. They're open early in the mornings and until 9 (usually) in the evenings.
3) I'd say both, but more often buy food and eat at home - it's cheaper by far. It's not insane to eat out - you can get a three course meal for about 14 euro, but it's still cheaper to eat at home.
4) 20 euro a week at Monoprix is not a bad average. If you throw in extra fun things, you can do it for a comfortable 30. A bag of pasta is like 1,50...baguette about 70 centimes...so not too bad. Try to visit the market as much as possible - fresh fruit and vegetables year round, and if you're a mushroom fan, you can get more than you could ever eat for like 5 euro.
5) I'll get back to you on this one...moules-frites are really popular, and there are several pasta/pizza places here. Sushi's pretty big, too.
6) You're going to think I'm crazy, but Subway! The owner is a huge fan of foreigners and they've got coupons. And it's cheap. It's not the cheapest, but the best sushi, in my opinion, is on the cours mirabeau. Snack shops - shawerma's (sp) and kebabs are CHEAP, easy access, and delicious - 4 euro for a meal that I can't finish in one sitting.
Coke is not cheap here. For most of you, this probably won't matter, but if you enjoy it every now and then, expect to pay up to 4 euro for a CAN.
